# Command-line launcher

The `syntheo` command lets you create a Syntheo desktop task from a terminal or script.

## Install the command

1. Open **Settings → About → Command Line**.
2. Choose **Install command**.
3. Follow any PATH instruction shown by the app.
4. Restart the terminal if needed.

## Start a task

```bash
syntheo <workspace-path> "prompt"
```

Examples:

```bash
syntheo . "explain this project; do not edit" --action ask
```

```bash
syntheo ~/Projects/app "plan the settings update" \
  --action architect \
  --title "Settings update plan"
```

## Options

```text
--action submit|ask|architect|debug
--title "Task title"
--virtual-edit
--no-focus
```

- Use `--virtual-edit` when you want changes kept separate for review.
- Use `--no-focus` when a background workflow should not bring Syntheo to the front.

## Avoid common mistakes

- Use an existing project directory.
- Put the prompt in quotes.
- Confirm the intended action before starting a task that may edit files.
- Use a harmless Ask task to test a new installation.
- For long instructions, store the details in the workspace and mention that file in the prompt.

The task still uses Syntheo's normal provider, workspace, permission, and review settings.
