# Mobile Companion and Privacy Veil

Mobile Companion lets you monitor and control Syntheo from an iPhone. Privacy Veil helps keep the Syntheo window out of supported screen capture.

## Pair Mobile Companion on the same network

1. Open **Settings → Mobile Companion** on the desktop.
2. Open the Syntheo mobile app.
3. Choose **Connect with Desktop**.
4. Scan the desktop QR code.
5. Confirm the connection on the phone.

If scanning fails, use the manual address and rotating code shown on the desktop.

## Connect away from your local network

Use **Connect from anywhere** only with a remote relay you trust. Enter the secure relay address provided by your organization or relay operator.

Remote access requires the desktop to remain awake, online, and running Syntheo.

## Use mobile access safely

The companion can interact with tasks, approvals, Terminal, and Browser. Treat a paired phone as an authorized control device.

- Verify the task and workspace before approving anything.
- Read the full command, path, and URL where possible.
- Pair devices separately so one device can be revoked without affecting others.
- Use **Forget** for a lost, sold, or retired device.
- Create a **New code** if pairing details were exposed.
- Turn remote access off when you do not need it.

## Use Privacy Veil

Privacy Veil keeps Syntheo visible to you while hiding its window from supported meeting and recording apps.

Enable it from **Settings → Theme & Display → Privacy Veil**, from the Open control, or with the keyboard shortcut listed in [Keyboard shortcuts](../reference/shortcuts.md).

You can leave it on until you disable it or choose a timed duration.

Privacy Veil does **not**:

- remove secrets from task history;
- hide content copied into another app;
- block local users or malicious software;
- hide notifications from other apps;
- replace normal account and device security.

Test it with your recording or meeting app before relying on it during a sensitive session.

## Stay aware in the background

Open **Settings → Audio** to choose sounds for completion, permission requests, and errors. “Unfocused only” is useful when you want alerts only while working in another app.
