Connect an AI provider
Syntheo needs an AI provider before it can run a task. You can connect with a supported subscription or with provider API access.
Choose the right connection#

Provider eligibility, available models, limits, and billing are controlled by the provider and may change.
Connect with OAuth#
- Open Settings → AI Provider.
- Choose the provider for a model preset.
- Select an available model.
- Choose OAuth or Authenticate.
- Complete the provider's sign-in page.
- Return to Syntheo and wait for the connected status.
- Send a small Ask request to test the connection.
Use the account that owns the subscription you intend to use. Several model presets can reuse the same provider connection.
Connect with an API key#
- Open Settings → AI Provider.
- Choose the provider and model.
- Select Key if the provider offers more than one sign-in method.
- Enter the key in the provider settings—not in a task or chat message.
- Save, then test with a small Ask request.
A consumer subscription and a developer API account are usually billed separately. Choose the connection that matches your account and organization policy.
Configure your presets#
A simple starting setup is:
- Standard: everyday work;
- Hunter: difficult planning and debugging;
- Design: interface and product work;
- Browser: work that needs the web.
You do not need to perfect every preset before your first task. Configure Standard first, then add the others when you need them.
Protect your account#
- Sign in only on the provider page opened by Syntheo.
- Never paste passwords, recovery codes, session cookies, or OAuth tokens into a task.
- Use company-managed accounts when your organization requires them.
- Disconnect accounts you no longer use.
- Check the active account before authorizing access.
If connection fails#
- Confirm that you selected the intended provider.
- Confirm that the signed-in account has access to the selected model.
- Try a smaller or different available model.
- Disconnect and authenticate again if you changed accounts.
